I am Anishinaabe and a status member of Eabametoong First Nation. I have maternal ancestral ties with the Slipperjack family of Whitewater Lake First Nation. My father is of Scottish, Irish, and English descent, and is a second-generation Canadian settler. I grew up with my two sisters to gifted storytelling parents in Thunder Bay, Ontario – the land of the Sleeping Giant, its protector mishibizhiw (a water-panther spirit), and Anemki Wajiw (Thunderbird Mountain). I currently live in Winnipeg, MB, and I am a tenured Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Manitoba. I am fascinated by the ways in which stories capture our emotions, flood us with awe and inspiration, and awaken the spirit in our everyday lives. As such, I engage with story, storying and storytelling through my writing, research, and teaching. I have one full-length YA fiction novel with HighWater Press set to release April 2026.
