Poetry Competition Longlist Announced

Fifteen Poets from across Manitoba have been longlisted for the 2025 Rabindranath Tagore Poetry Competition.

The list of poets in alphabetical order are:

  • “Meek, Mere, Monoglot” by Hazel De Jesus
  • “1950, 1980, 2020” by Taryn Fenez
  • “The Ballad of the White Elephant” by Irina Mazor
  • “Vascillation entre deux monde” by Gisele Nankafu
  • “The Love of a Thorneback” by Desiree Penner
  • “Rhodesia” by Sean Philips
  • “Still” by Julia Rempel
  • “Awake” by Tami-Lee Reynolds
  • “While I Can” by Penny Scott-Mazur
  • “Consolation Prize” by Debbie Strange
  • “Oh, Dear Cat Lady” by Jennifer Tesoro
  • “Prairie Paradise” by Jennifer Tesoro
  • “This Older Dude Over at Conchita’s Up North Main This Morning” by Mitchell Toews

The longlist was selected from 34 submissions, and we thank our preliminary judges, including Josiah Neufeld, Yelani Peiris, and Paul Morris, for their notable work. The shortlist will be announced shortly, and the winners will be announced at a reception on Friday, June 6, 2025.
