Programs

The MWG offers a variety of programs and services for writers and readers in Manitoba. Many of these programs, such as our workshops and reading series, are open to non-members as well.

If you’re looking for information on calls for submission, local readings, writing groups, workshops, writers’ retreats and residencies, as well as local and international writing news, our monthly newsletter is a great resource, full of useful information.

Book Chat

We feature established authors, who read from their work and answer audience questions.

A virtual event that happens at 7:00 pm CST on the second Wednesday each month.

Book Launch

All of our members with published books, whether self-published, indie press published, or traditionally published are eligible for this member benefit.

Critique Circle

Listen to fellow writers share their work and hear the encouragement offered to see if this might be right for you.

Sessions held at 7:00pm on the second Tuesday and last Wednesday of each month.

Dave Williamson National Short Story Competition

Dave Williamson is one of the founding members of the Manitoba Writers’ Guild and honorary patron of our Short Story Competition.

The three prize winners plus (up to three) honourable mentions will be published in an eBook anthology by the Manitoba Writers’ Guild.

Sheldon Oberman Mentorship

During the program, the emerging writer is encouraged to utilize the expertise of the professional writer in the areas of manuscript evaluation, markets and publishing, and grants and employment opportunities.

Youth Program

Our Youth Program is an emotionally safe environment that supports individuality and empowerment.
