D.G. Valdron is a Winnipeg writer and novelist known for speculative fiction, horror, fantasy as well as several nonfiction volumes about cult TV series. He has self-published 26 books in the last 8 years and has been a guest speaker at many literary conventions and conferences across North America.
On May 15-17, 2026 in addition to participating as a panelist at Winnipeg’s Keycon 42 Fandom Convention, he is also premiering his latest books, created as a tribute to a fallen friend, artist and fellow writer Ewen Campion-Clarke from Australia, who he tragically never had the chance to meet in person. Ewen collaborated with him on a series of stories and book covers, but he passed away before any of his works were published. The books will finally be launched at Keycon 42 on May 16, 2026.
D.G. Valdron is known for fantasy books like “The Mermaid’s Tale”, but he also has a strong connection to the BBC’s Dr Who TV series, having published a three-volume compendium on Dr. Who fan films. Like many true “Whovians”, he wrote Dr. Who fanfiction: several short stories, a little meta-fanfiction, and a quirky oddball novel. After posting them online, he was surprised to be contacted from Australia by a fellow Dr. Who fan, Ewen Campion-Clarke. In 2020, Ewen took Valdron’s stories and adapted them into full-length scripts for an idealized season of shows for the long running BBC series. The two became online friends.
In 2024, Ewen learned he had cancer. He was only in his late 30’s, still a young man. While he put up a good fight, his slow decline was marked with personal misfortune: his cat died, his laptop fried, and he was in and out of coma until he passed away in July, 2025. Ewen had always wanted to be a writer. He’d produced some novels and a lot of fan fiction, but never got published. In the end, much of his life’s work was buried on a fried hard drive and scattered across the internet on the archives of fan sites. Valdron felt this was unfair. Ewen was a good writer who deserved to be remembered. So he tracked down Ewen’s mother, asked her permission, and then gathered up Ewen’s New Doctor Who tales, and adapted them into the further adventures of H.G. Wells’ nameless TIME TRAVELER, with his associates, Heart and Diamond, mysterious twins gifted with sarcasm and superpowers.
So at this year’s Winnipeg Keycon 42 on May 15-17 Valdron will participate in three panels and also premiere his two-volume adaptations of Ewen’s scripts: The TIME TRAVELER CHRONICLES, Season One and Two.
